Mike Burns is the owner of The Rifler Precision Gunsmithing and Machine Shop Services. He has been operating under that name since 1982. Mike was first educated as a machinist, spending three years in a vocational training highschool. Upon graduation, he was employed for 20 years at B&Y Machine Shop where he perfected his skills in the machine shop trades, before moving on to pursue other interests. It was during that period of time at B&Y Machine Shop that the idea of The Rifler was formed.
Mike is an accomplished machinist and is skilled in lathe, milling, grinding, and all types of manual machine shop operations. He has worked as a general machinist, tool and die builder, automotive machinist, machine builder, and high speed machine mechanic. He has worked in these related fields for over 39 years.
In 1982 upon completion of a two year gunsmithing course Mike started The Rifler Gunsmithing. His love of the outdoors and firearms went hand in hand and with the skills he already possessed, gun repair seemed a perfect match. In 1993 Mike enrolled at Lehigh Community College where he studied two years in Mechanical Technical Engineering. This would later prove useful in the design and building of his own cartridge called the 257 Burns.
The 257 Burns is based on the new short magnum designs being offered today. We offer this information as proof of the craftsmanship that goes into each rifle or repair The Rifler makes. It is our hope that you will consider having your next gun project skillfully completed by The Rifler, a full time gunsmith.
The Rifler started shooting Benchrest competitions in 2006 with his work. In February of 2007, Mike became a member of International Benchrest Shooters. Look for more of The Rifler's results in competition under the Competition Results page.
